A Day in the Life | Going Paleo

Working at Tabl, I spend most of my day thinking about food, talking about food and counting down the seconds until I can eat food again. Unfortunately, over Christmas, there weren’t many seconds to count as my hand was never far from the biscuit tin.

To start the year off, not only did I decide to embark on a 31-day yoga challenge, this coming from someone with the flexibility of a nutcracker, but also go Paleo. For those who don’t know, the Paleo diet, aka ‘The Caveman Diet’ focusses on meat, fruits, nuts etc. You know stuff you would hunt and forage, and limits grains, dairy, legumes and pretty much everything else I eat daily. I have what some may call an obsession with bread and butter so going Paleo was more about paying attention to what I’m eating rather than losing weight.

While so may find it hard to go Paleo, especially if you’re like me and don’t eat meat or poultry, here’s an entry from my pescetarian-friendly Paleo diet diary.

Day #17: I’ve lost count of how many eggs I’ve eaten

Breakfast – After 16 days of eating some form of scrambled eggs with sautéed veggies I’ve decided to mix things up a bit. Going Paleo doesn’t just mean eating meat all day, I’m very conscious of getting in my 5-a-day. Today I opted for this pumpkin custard which is naturally sweetened with bananas, gets my veg in with some pumpkin, uses coconut milk for healthy fat while replacing dairy and yes still sneaks in eggs for protein.

Lunch –Breakfast usually keeps me full up without need that mid-morning snack. For lunch, I have some leftover sea bass topped with some fresh mango salsa and side of broccoli.

Mid-Afternoon Snack – To beat the 4 o’clock slump I’m having some carrot batons with this sunflower seed hummus. You can’t have any legumes on the Paleo but seeds are A-Okay.

Dinner – Working at a start-up I typically don’t leave until late so I’m equally ravenous as I am sleepy when I get home. I mix up this matcha pesto and toss it over some courgetti and prawns for a quick meal. I complete my 30 minutes of yoga challenge before a dessert of frozen grapes (if you close your eyes tight enough if tastes like wine).
